Annual Club Dinner 2023

We welcomed 150 members, partners and guests to celebrate the 2022/23 season on Friday 19th May at our Annual Club Dinner and we were treated to some top speeches and entertainment to celebrate the close of another fantastic season.

Paul Arnold returned to MC the evening and did not disappoint while we were fortunate to have further words from our President, Simon Burns, as well as Honorary Life Member Jeremy Richardson and 7s coaching maestro Graham Bonner. The evening was a great reflection of our season and indeed the many reasons we have such a supportive membership as guest reminisced about our twinning with Le Havre (and celebrating at the Hasbeens Lunch), welcoming numerous touring teams to the Club for senior and minis fixtures and of course the continued success and development of our senior and minis rugby sections.

The season’s playing awards were presented by Simon Burns and Vice-President Ewan Alexander. Well done to each of the following awards winners:

  • Young Player of the Year - Lewis Wells (Sponsored by D & L Graham)

  • Most Improved Player of the Year - Fraser McAslan (Sponsored by Blyth & Blyth Consulting Engineers)

  • 3rd XV Player of the Year - John Sellar

  • 2nd XV Player of the Year - Reuben Walsh

  • 7s Player of the Year - Gavin Welsh

  • Sponsors’ Player of the Year - Neil Armstrong (Sponsored by The Wooden Floor Store)

  • Players' Player of the Year - Max Wallace (Sponsored by FieldFireFork)

There were further special presentations as Jamie Loomes and Neil Armstrong presented our excellent physios Cat Hewitt and Naomi Williams with a bouquet of flowers and a gift each on behalf of all players. We had two current player who reached over 100 this past season and they we each presented with commemorative caps:

  • Tom Drennan - 118 Appearances

  • Neil Armstrong - 108 Appearances

In a evening of very special awards perhaps the most special was for long-term supporter of the Accies, current Board member, born enthusiast and the Club’s main sponsor, Steve Currie. A man who has worked tirelessly for Accies over the last 15 years and we can truly say the club would not be what it is his contribution. Steve was presented with a quaich to recognise 15 years of unfaltering support.

There is much to celebrate at Accies, even more to be excited about in future and it is the people the make this club, and indeed the dinner, so much fun to be a part of.
