Annual Club Dinner 2022
We welcomed over 140 members, partners and guests to celebrate the 2021/22 season on Friday 20th May at our Annual Club Dinner. The dinner was a milestone in itself as it was our first Club Dinner in our new Clubhouse and the last presided over by Bob Easson in his role as Club President.
Resident entertainer Paul Arnold conducted affairs in a manner only he could, ensuring the evening began and ended with some excellent live music, most notably from pianist Ian 'El Pianista' MacRae. In between, Paul introduced Bob Easson, Simon Burns and Doug McClure to say a few words and guests enjoyed a fantastic 3-course meal with wine (complements of Bruce Jack Wines). Huge thanks to all speakers and staff for delivering a fun and entertaining evening.
The season playing awards were also presented by Doug and Club Captain Callum Black. Well done to each of the following awards winners:
Young Player of the Year - Max Wallace
Most Improved Player of the Year - Cameron Bain (Sponsored by Millview Logistics Ltd)
3rd XV Player of the Year - Paul Arnold (Sponsored by The Wooden Floor Store)
2nd XV Player of the Year - Alistair Wood (Sponsored by FreshMex)
Murray & Currie Player of the Year - Cole Imrie (Sponsored by P2 Minis)
Players' Player of the Year - Cole Imrie (Sponsored by P2 Minis)
There were 3 further special presentations as Vice-Captain Jamie Loomes presented our excellent physios Cat Hewitt and Naomi Williams with a bouquet of flowers and a gift each on behalf of all players. Jerry Riley then presented a plaque to the Club to mark our friendship with 603 Squadron RAuxAF before Doug presented commemorative caps to our 3 current players with over 100 appearances for the 1st XV:
Jamie Sole - 181 Appearances
Callum Black - 126 Appearances
Clem Lacour - 110 Appearances
As Bob, Simon and Doug all commented during the night, the physical demands on amateur rugby players is only increasing and it has taken incredible resilience and commitment from our players, coaches, support team and everyone working hard behind-the-scenes at the Club to get to where we are now, especially when you consider where we were before the pandemic. Friday was a great night to reflect on a fine season on and off the pitch as well as look forward to next year and beyond!
