Twinned since 2022: EAFC & HAC

The Edinburgh Academical Football Club, founded in 1857, and HAC, founded in 1872, signed a twinning arrangement on the afternoon of Saturday 10th December 2022. The friendship will foster closer ties between the oldest rugby clubs in Scotland and France respectively including looking to offer players the opportunity to travel and develop between clubs and hopefully maintain our relationship with regular touring.

Twinning Charter: The Edinburgh Academical Football Club & Le Havre Athletic Club Rugby

With a view to encouraging and facilitating relations between the members and players of the Edinburgh Academical Football Club and the Le Havre Athletic Club Rugby and;

Proud of our joint heritage as the oldest rugby clubs in our respective nations, Scotland and France;

We hereby declare our shared desireto commit our clubs to a lasting and active twinning relationship

In signing the present charter, we jointly agree to

  • carry and sustain the fundamental values of rugby, which unite us beyond our borders - integrity, passion, respect, solidarity, discipline;

  • develop sports and social exchanges, in a friendly and family spirit, between the various members and teams in our clubs;

  • encourage the intrenational sports, language and professional training of our players;

  • share and raise awareness of our respective cultures, thus rekindling the spirit of the Auld Alliance between our two nations.

Having obtained the approval of their respective Boards, the present Twinning Charter is hereby signed by Mr Simon BURNS, President of the EAFC, and Mr Olivier DOUTRELEAU, President of the HAC, on thisthe tenth day of December Twenty Twenty Two in the City of Edinburgh.

Fri 9 Dec 2022 - Welcome reception for our friends from Le Havre Athletic Club (HAC) Rugby at Murray & Currie offices in Queen Street, where we were joined by Jamie Ritchie, the current Scotland captain.
