Doddie Cup 555 Challenge

In 3 weeks’ time, on Thursday 9th February, our Hasbeens Cycling Team will depart Cardiff’s Principality Stadium as part of the Doddie Cup 555 Challenge. The team will cycle 555 miles - including 26,556 feet of elevation - in the depths of a British winter aiming to reaching Murrayfield in time to watch Scotland play Wales in the Guinness 6 Nations, 2.5 days after they start – Check out the route here.

The Doddie Cup 555 Challenge is a charity cycling event in honour of Doddie Weir, who very sadly succumbed to MND on 26th November last year. The ride is led by Doddie’s former Scotland and British & Irish Lions teammate Rob Wainwright aiming to deliver the match ball for the Doddie Weir Cup but the ultimate goal is to raise funds for My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, to help find a cure for MND.

The Hasbeens Cycling team is captained by Rod Mitchell, former Edinburgh Accies and North and Midland captain, and he has assembled a fine team take on the challenge including Iain Berthinussen (1st XV Head Coach), Dave McIvor (Honorary Life Member) and Jason Parrott (EAFC Board Member) and a cracking support team including Guy Richardson (British & Irish Lions Director of Operations, 2013) and Cat Hewitt (EAFC Head Physio).

We wish the team well in the rest of their training and we are sure they will tackle the challenge with the same vigour, spirit and camaraderie that our Edinburgh Accies Hasbeens are renowned for! They will visit various rugby clubs on their return home and are due to arrive at our clubhouse before they head to Murrayfield on Saturday 11 February - Further detail to follow.

The team have set up a JustGiving page and a target to raise £25,000. Please click here to follow their progress and donate what you can - https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/edinburghaccieshasbeens

As Doddie used to say, 'MND isn't an incurable disease, it's just an underfunded one' so thanks in advance for your support.

We are delighted to welcome the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation to The Place as they host this very special event next Friday 27 January. The Foundation's very own CEO Jill Douglas will host the event which will review the first 4 weeks of Doddie Aid and look ahead to the 2023 Six Nations and World Cup - Tickets here.
