EAFC Director of Rugby

We are looking for a dynamic leader to become the Director of Rugby at Edinburgh Accies. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of the senior rugby plan and the effective leadership of all senior rugby related matters at the Club.

These are exciting times at Accies and this is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated volunteer to join this historic club and contribute towards our goal to be the best amateur rugby club in Scotland. This season, our 1st XV have reached the play-offs of the Men’s Tennent’s Premiership for the second year running and our 2nd and 3nd XVs continue to compete at the top of their leagues - each the highest reserve league they are able to compete in. We have a strong pool of committed players, coaches, support and volunteers along with a great club environment and membership and we have recently moved into our new Clubhouse, Café and Bar at Raeburn Place which is ideally placed to provide the financial backing to achieve our rugby goals.

Duties include;

  • To develop and oversee implementation of the senior Club rugby plan in conjunction with the key partners.

  • Set, maintain and co-ordinate the implementation of the Club’s “agreed playing philosophy and standards” throughout all teams, consistent with the values of the game

  • The recruitment, retention and development of players and coaches at the Club

  • To develop a succession plan for coaches

  • Ensure a selection process is in place for all senior Club teams

  • Act as a liaison between the Club Captain and the coaches and our Rugby Group

  • Ensure a management team is in place for all senior Club teams

  • Ensure appropriate conditioning, medical and physio services are in place

  • Implement processes across the whole club to ensure a safe playing environment is created

  • Liaise with the Club coaches, players committee and team captains on matters such as playing and training facilities, pitch hire, equipment, playing gear, etc .

  • Attend Rugby Group and report quarterly to the Board

  • Attend SRU Club Forum and SRU meetings and have an overview of SRU policies.

  • Assist in producing budgets to meet the requirements of the Rugby Group

  • Work within the rugby budget, as agreed by the Board, which allows the rugby programme to function.

  • Self-motivated and committed

  • Enthusiastic to developing the Rugby Union game and development of players and coaching teams

  • Able to lead and manage people and create a positive working environment

  • Reliable and personally well organised

  • Knowledgable and has a good understanding of the senior and age-group player development pathway in Scotland

  • Able to communicate and network with a range of people both on and off the pitch
